“Porn site” or Registrar?

GoDaddy is one of those start-ups, long time ago, that provided a service that was needed. A cheaper alternative to the $35 a year, minimum 2 years registration fees for domain names. The support for a domain name in those days was a simple pointer to your web site. They didn’t have all the functionality that they have today. So at the time, GoDaddy providing domain names for $6 a pop was a need fulfilled.

Then they turned into a porn site.

Scripting Box.com mounting

Box.com as a file share

When I started this I thought it would be a piece of piss. About 2 hours later I had the file share loaded. The problem is that when you don’t know the technical aspects of Linux its hard to home in on the issue. But in those two hours I learnt a lot about Ubuntu, as the issue was around the Webdav  implementation in Debian. If I would have read the manual I would have probably solved the issue quicker. But WHERE in the manual and WHAT manual is always the issue.

Encrypting file systems using ENCFS

I’ve been using Truecrypt for quiet a while and have found it useful until I had to keep creating volumes. The Volumes get full and they can’t easily be expanded. So you end up with several volumes that you have to mount individually never knowing which volume contains that file that you need. Granted, Truecrypt is probably one of the safest options to protect your data but I don’t need the ultimate solution, I just need one that will cover me for most situations. As long as I’m not marked a “Terrorist” the people wanting access to the data will not have the naus.
